1. Analyze the impact of social services on the human experience and how things have changed in past decades.
*The first power point presentation covered this. I also read it in the book.
2. Acquire first-hand experience by volunteering a minimum of ten hours in a human service agency.
*I have no problem finding volunteer work. I looked online at United Way.
3. Examine the history of human services in the U.S.
*Found it in the book, along with the lecture.
4. Determine the populations that various human services agencies serve.
* There was a lecture on it, some in the book, but it helped me to look around locally.
5. Characterize helping strategies between human service agencies.
*Read it in the book. Learned off our discussion board from other people.
6. Identify the characteristics of the helping profession as linked to personal attributes.
*There was a chapter on it, I learned a lot of that in my intro to counseling class though.
7. Discriminate between ethical and unethical behavior in human service personnel.
*There was also a chapter on that in both classes, looked at some cases of people who didn't practice that behavior.
8. Explain the personal qualifications necessary for employment in the human service field.
*That's something we learned in the first few chapters of the book but also something you should've learned through the whole class.
9. Formulate a plan to avoid human service worker burnout.
*I did a lot of research online for this one. The book had some stuff but it didn't go into detail like I wanted it to.
10. Explain how human diversity affects human service de Develop a philosophy of life that includes valuing continual educational growth.
*That is something you teach yourself and really can't be gained by just picking it up. Your opinion on it can be affected by others testimonies. It just depends if you philosophy of life includes that value.

1. I don't think I have a preference for working with certain people over another group. I do however know that I do not want to work as a social worker. I think their meaning is really drowned in paperwork stuck behind a desk. I know I wouldn't mind working with children, teens, or adults. I guess it might be a little harder for me to work with elderly but that's just because I don't know them very well. I still like the older generation and find them very interesting. Although, I do not think that working in a nursing home would be something I enjoyed.
2. When they are intending harm upon themselves or someone else.
3. A dual relationship is considered inappropriate when it is affecting the helper in a negative way. With that said even if it is affecting the helper in a positive way it may loose the focus of the client. A worker is there to help the client in their needs and not to interfere with the workers personal life.
4. Spending time with the client outside of scheduled times in the work setting. Calling the client outside of work to talk in a personal manner. Getting sexually involved with a client or romantically involved.
5. Counter transference is when there is an emotional reaction to a client because of something they have shared with the worker. This comes from the worker.
